Louis is a three-year-old Labrador and shepherd mix who was taken to the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, California. His former owners had given him up because they had his eyes removed instead of treating an infection, and they could not handle having a blind pet. Soon after the operation, Louis was taken to a pound in Calexico, where he was rescued by one of Helen Woodward’s partners. When Louis arrived at the animal center, he was not only blind but also nervous and injured from being hit by a car. The director of Helen Woodward Animal Center Adoptions, Hella Tyler, emphasizes the responsibility that comes with owning a pet and the importance of realizing that pets require monthly expenses and medical care. Fortunately, Louis has been taken in by a loving foster family and is adjusting to his new life without eyes and with a limp. Helen Woodward is currently searching for a forever home for Louis, but interested parties must live in a one-story home and preferably work from home as well.
