It’s common for us to come across bait dogs that were saved or taken in. These are the tales I love to recount and spread. Yet, I think this clip is crucial as it shows how these dogs get found out.

Tom McPhee, the Executive Director of the World Animal Awareness Society (WA2S), and the Producer and Director of the American Strays series, joins forces with Michigan Humane Society Officers to expose the use of fresh canines as “bait” for fighting dogs. Through their cameras, they capture the dreadful conditions that these canines are subjected to. Bait dogs often suffer from various ailments such as broken bones, untreated wounds, tied lips, maggots, and malnutrition.
According to Jenny Jackson, a Michigan Humane Society Officer, dog fights are a year-round issue. The individuals participating in these fights tend to be young people who take pit bulls and tie them up in deserted yards or battle them in parks. Unfortunately, these dogs do not receive the necessary medical attention, food, drink, or shelter. Sadly, they are often neglected and left to fend for themselves.
